2026 Asphalt Resurfacing Program

The City of Stratford’s annual asphalt resurfacing program has begun, and will include the following streets in 2026:

• Waterloo Street from Douro Street to Albert St. and Ontario St. to Lakeside Drive (625 meters)
• Downie Street from Goderich-Exeter Rail Crossing to Ontario (850 metres)
• Norfolk Street from Downie Street to Borden Street (600 metres)
• Cambria Street from St. Vincent Street to Erie Street (500 metres)

The asphalt resurfacing activities primarily relate to the rehabilitation of the roadway asphalt by partial and full depth asphalt removal, brick road removal, adjustment of structures, drainage improvements, curb and gutter repairs, and new pavement markings.

Please be advised that Downie Street from Albert/Wellington Street to Ontario Street will be closed to all traffic, starting at 7:00am on Saturday October 17th, 2026, between 7:00AM to 1:00PM, to facilitate asphalt milling and paving operations, and maintenance hole and catch basin adjustments along this section of Downie Street. Local pedestrian access will remain for businesses and residents, with vehicular detours established within the downtown core for local traffic.

• Traffic attempting to travel southbound on Downie Street from Ontario Street (downtown core) shall detour as follows:
  1. Erie Street – St. Patrick Street – Wellington Street, or;
  2. Waterloo Street – Albert Street
• Traffic attempting to travel northbound on Downie Street the downtown core shall detour Albert Street to Waterloo Street to Ontario Street.
