The Stratford Municipal Airport is a Transport Canada-certified facility that is owned by the City of Stratford and operated on a contracted basis by Stratford Air Services under the administrative oversight of the City Fire Chief.
The Airport is operated as a municipal service to the community and its operating costs are supported by the City of Stratford. Approximately 10,000-12,000 aircraft movements occur at Stratford Municipal Airport annually.
In October 2022, the City retained HM Aero Aviation Consulting to prepare the Stratford Municipal Airport Study with a specific focus on whether the Airport can become a financially sustainable asset and to provide options to the City if it cannot be made financially sustainable. To accomplish the core focus of the Study, HM Aero will take a three-part approach:
Baseline Conditions: A primer will be provided on the current situation of the Airport, including its infrastructure and operations, activity, climate impacts, social and economic value, and performance relative to other airports.
Future Opportunities: A forward-looking approach will be used to identify the opportunities that may exist for the Airport to improve its financial performance and economic / social value.
Recommended Path: Based on a clear understanding of the Airport’s future opportunities, the degree to which the facility aligns with the City’s priorities will be identified and a preferred direction for the future will be established.
The Stratford Municipal Airport Study will include recommendations for the City’s consideration. City Council will be responsible for future decision-making regarding the facility, with input from City Staff, the community, and the consultant.
