Why are you asking the community for input?

Our goal is to create an environment in the park space so that, when we are done, the entire park can be a well-used outdoor space serving the year-round needs and activities of its diverse, surrounding community. Because it’s important that we get it right, we are using an open and transparent consultative process with Countryside Park stakeholders to collectively deliver a design concept for the park property that we can all support.

What steps are being taken to ensure the final design meets the needs of the community?

There are many elements of this consultative process, the primary ones being an initial Public Outreach Event at the Fall Fair to provide input for our hired designer, and a later Public Information Centre where multiple concepts are shared and discussed. Residents will also have the opportunity to be informed, and share thoughts and opinions through Engage Stratford. We believe the best result will come from a robust participation that includes everyone with an interest in Stratford’s parks.

When will the project be built?

At this point we are developing the design framework ONLY. Construction will happen when capital funds are approved for construction.

Will the fairgrounds be open for use during construction?

Yes. While some temporary closures may be required it is anticipated that the fairgrounds, Agriplex, and Rotary Complex will remain open for public use during construction on the park.

What will happen to the fairgrounds?

At this point the design efforts will be focused on the newly acquired piece of land to the north of the fairgrounds. The fairgrounds are not part of the project scope at this point, however, depending on funding and community feedback some minor improvements may be incorporated to ensure the whole property functions as a single and cohesive unit.

What will the park look like?

There are many options for the final design and components. Looking at them all, and how they might be the right fit for Countryside Park, is the purpose of the events that are being conducted.

How do I go about providing feedback to the City?

We encourage anyone interested in the project to browse the information on this site, or contact the Project Manager, Darcy Drummond directly at ddrummond@stratford.ca, or 519-271-0250 extension 5450.
