MAT Policy Survey

The Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) Ad-Hoc Committee has been asked to create a policy to establish how to allocate funds raised from accommodation taxes paid by overnight guests in the City of Stratford.

As part of this work, the Ad-Hoc Committee is looking for feedback on a proposed application-driven model that would allow event organizers to apply for funding to support their initiatives.

Please give us your feedback by completing the brief survey below, which will be available until June 24, 2026.

1.

How would you describe yourself? (choose all that apply)

2.

The City of Stratford has several options for the use of the remaining 50% portion of MAT funds. Please give us your thoughts on the following statements:

The City should use its 50% portion of MAT funds to support tourism-related events that result in overnight stays.
The City should use its 50% portion of MAT funds to support tourism-related events and activities of any kind.
The City should use its 50% portion of MAT funds by placing the amount in a reserve fund for supporting larger tourism events (for example: sporting events/tournaments, cultural/arts/music festivals, etc.
The City should use its 50% portion of MAT funds to divide the funds for a combination of the above (i.e. 25% supporting events that result in overnight stays, and 25% put into reserves).
The policy adopted should provide some flexibility to Council when making funding decisions on the use of MAT funds.
