The City of Stratford will be temporarily closing several sections of road at intersections along Huron Street starting Monday, August 22, for approximately two weeks.

As part of the Huron Street reconstruction project, Mornington Street between Hibernia Street and Huron Street will be closed, along with the intersections of Huron and T.J. Dolan Drive, and Huron and Douglas Street.

That means there will be no access to Huron Street from T.J. Dolan Drive, Douglas Street and Mornington Street. The right hand turn from Huron Street onto Mornington Street or William Street (before the lights) will still be available.

Two-way traffic will be maintained on Huron Street, but the traffic lights at the Huron/Mornington intersection will not be in service.

As work on the Huron Street reconstruction project continues, a number of changes will take place starting Tuesday, Aug. 2:

    • The intersection of Huron Street and Mornington Street will reopen, although the intersections of Huron Street and Douglas Street, and Huron Street and T.J. Dolan Drive will remain closed
    • The intersection of Huron Street and St. Vincent Street will reopen
    • The intersection of Huron Street and John Street will be closed at Norman Street to northbound traffic. That means it will not be possible for northbound traffic to turn onto Huron Street from John Street, or to travel through the intersection. John Street will also be closed between Huron Street and Hibernia Street. It will still be possible for southbound traffic to turn onto John Street from Huron Street.
    • Two-way traffic will be continue on Huron Street. Between Mornington and St. Vincent Street, the two-way traffic will travel along two lanes. From St. Vincent Street to just west of John Street, two-way traffic will travel along a single lane, with portable traffic lights used to control traffic.

Please be advised that St. Vincent Street at Huron Street will be temporarily closed to through traffic from June 15 to June 30, 2022.

This road closure is necessary to allow for the construction of the Huron Street to continue through the intersection of Huron and St. Vincent Streets.

There will be no access to and from Huron Street from St. Vincent Street during that construction period.

Work has begun on the first phase of the City of Stratford’s Huron Street Reconstruction project.

This project involves replacing underground infrastructure and rebuilding the roadway on Huron Street between the Huron Street bridge and John Street.

Two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the construction period, but some temporary lane reductions and intersection closures will be required.

During the first stage, Huron Street will be reduced to two travel lanes (on the existing westbound lanes) to allow for construction to take place on the eastbound lanes.

At times, traffic will be reduced further to a single lane during working hours, using portable lane control signs. This will revert to two-way traffic during non-working hours.

Construction is scheduled to begin near the Huron Street bridge and move west toward John Street.

Some street closures will be required at intersections along Huron Street as the work advances.
